Borrowing from the Mount Royal Library
Mount Royal students, staff and faculty may borrow any item from the circulating collection - books, DVDs, and CDs - as well as audiovisual equipment for the purpose of teaching and learning.
- Your Campus Card is your library card
- Material may be renewed online, by phone (403-440-6129), and in person at the Circulation / Reserves Desk
- Journals, magazines, newspapers and reference materials may be used in-house only
- Audio-visual equipment is available for loan from the Media Desk
Loan Periods
- Books - generally 3 weeks
- ESL Collection - generally 1 week
- Videos/DVDs - Overnight
- Reserve Collection - Varies, 1 hour to 1 week
Overnight Reserve Collection Loans
Overnight loans are available on selected Reserve books. Overnight loans are not possible the week prior to, and during, exams.
Overnight Loan periods:
Fall and Winter Semester
- Monday-Thursday: 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. following day
- Friday and Saturday: 4 p.m. to 11 a.m. following day
- Sunday: 4 p.m. to 9 a.m. Monday
Spring Semester
- Monday-Thursday: 4 p.m. to 9 a.m. following day
- Friday: 2 p.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday
- Saturday: 12 p.m. to 9 a.m. Monday
- Sunday: Closed
Summer Semester
- Monday-Thursday: 2 p.m. to 9 a.m. following day
- Friday: 2 p.m. to 9 a.m. Monday
- Saturday and Sunday: Closed
Overnight loans are not permitted for:
- Binders
- Exams
- Non-print material
- High-use items
- Some instructor owned material
Hold/Request an Item
You may request, or place a "hold", on library items that are loaned out to another borrower. Holds may be placed the following ways:
- Online, via the My Account link in the library catalogue
- In person at the Circulation / Reserves desk
- Via telephone at 403.440.6129
Note: available items cannot be placed on hold.
Renewing Items
Materials may be renewed twice, providing no holds have been placed on them. Renewals can be placed:

- In person at the Circulation / Reserves desk
- Via telephone at 403.440.6129
Note: Reserve and Media materials must be renewed in person.
