Borrowing from MRU

Using the library

Book stacksMount Royal University students, faculty and staff may borrow any item from the circulating collection - books, journals, magazines, DVDs, CDs and audiovisual equipment..

  • Your Campus Card is your library card 
  • Material may be renewed online at your Library Account, by phone 403.440.6019, or in person at the Service Desk
    • Items may be renewed twice if there are no holds placed on them
    • Automatic renewals may be applied to main collection resources. If the item you borrowed isn’t requested by another user, the system may automatically extend your loan period (no more than twice). Renewal due dates can be found in your Library Account
    • Reserve and Media items must be renewed in person
  • Newspapers and reference materials may be used in-house only
  • Equipment, including laptops, are available to borrow at the Service Desk

Loan periods

  • Students studying in podsBooks - semester loan
  • EAL Collection - varies, 1 week to 3 weeks
  • Reserve Collection - varies, 2 hours to 1 week
  • Interlibrary Loans - due date is set by the lending library
  • Videos/DVDs – 1 week
  • Laptops - 1 day or 3 days

Fines are charged for overdue materials. Please see Loans and fines for more information

Hold / request an item

Request, or place a "hold", on library items that are either loaned out to another borrower or available on the shelf. Holds may be placed the following ways:

  • Online, via the Library Account link in the library catalogue
  • In person at the Service Desk
  • Via telephone at 403.440.6019

Note: You can confirm your hold is available for pick-up at the Service Desk by logging into your Library Account

Overnight reserve collection loans

Overnight loans are available on selected Reserve books. Overnight loans are not possible the week prior to, and during, exams.

Following are the overnight loan periods for the Fall and Winter semesters

  • Monday - Thursday: 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. following day
  • Friday - Saturday: 4 p.m. to 11 a.m. following day
  • Sunday: 4 p.m. to 9 a.m. Monday

 

Overnight loans are available on selected Reserve books. Overnight loans are not possible the week prior to, and during, exams.

Following are the overnight loan periods for the Spring semester:

  • Monday-Thursday: 4 p.m. to 9 a.m. following day
  • Friday: 2 p.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday
  • Saturday: 12 p.m. to 9 a.m. Monday
  • Sunday: Closed

Overnight loans are available on selected Reserve books. Overnight loans are not possible the week prior to, and during, exams.

Following are the overnight loan periods for the Summer semester:

  • Monday-Thursday: 2 p.m. to 9 a.m. following day
  • Friday: 2 p.m. to 9 a.m. Monday
  • Saturday and Sunday: Closed

Overnight loans are not permitted for the following items:

  • Binders
  • Non-print material
  • High-use items
  • Some instructor owned material
