Interlibrary loan (ILL)

Students studyingMount Royal University's Interlibrary Loan / Document Delivery (ILL) staff provide access to library material not owned by MRU.

Eligibility

ILL service is available to current Mount Royal University students, faculty, staff, and retired MRU staff and faculty.

Placing Requests

Already have a citation?

  • Go to the Find Known Item tool and sign in (upper right hand corner of screen) with your MyMRU information
  • Choose your request type: Article or Book (for book chapters choose Article; for microfilm, theses, and videos choose Book)
  • Enter the details for your item and click on Submit
  • If MRU Library does not have access to the item, click the link for ‘Interlibrary loan request’
  • Fill in any missing information on the ILL request form. Enter a ‘cancel if not received by’ date if applicable and submit

Found a citation while searching LibrarySearch?

  • Scroll to the ‘How to get it’ section
  • Log in to your account (if you have not already done so)
  • Click ‘Interlibrary loan request’ link
  • Fill in any missing information on the ILL request form. Enter a ‘cancel if not received by’ date if applicable and submit
    • If you do not see the ‘Interlibrary loan request’, see MRU ILL’s Policy for eligibility

Found a citation while searching library databases (ie. Academic Search Complete, CINAHL, ScienceDirect, etc.)?

  • Click on the ‘Find full text’ or ‘Look for a copy’ link
    • If there is no ‘Find full text’ or ‘Look for a copy’ link, follow instructions above for ‘Already have a citation’
  • If MRU Library does not have access to the item, sign in (upper right hand corner of screen) with your MyMRU information and click the link for ‘Interlibrary loan request'
  • Fill in any missing information on the ILL request form. Enter a ‘cancel if not received by’ date if applicable and submit

Notifications and Delivery

  • All notifications will be sent to your MRU email account (@mtroyal.ca). Users will be notified by email when a request is placed and when the item arrives
    • Check your spam/junk folder if you do not receive any email confirmations and notifications
  • Delivery times can vary from two business days to over three weeks
    • Delivery time depends on the type of request, shipping method, and many other factors
  • Copies of articles and book chapters are delivered electronically - you will be emailed with a link to download the request. The link will be active for 5 downloads and 14 days; you are recommended to save or print a copy of the PDF

Loans, Renewals, and Returns

  • ​Pickup and return ILL loaned items at the Library Service Desk
  • The due date is noted on the book band. Return the item on or before the due date as overdue fines do apply
  • Renewals are not automatic; we must ask the lending library if they will permit the renewal.  Allow 2 business days to communicate with the lending library. MRU ILL will pursue 1 renewal per request
  • A $5 fee will be charged for all physical items that are requested and not picked up by the item due date
