Copyright Information: Conference presentations

Conference Presentations

If a conference presentation will be displayed or distributed to an audience that is not comprised primarily of MRU students or faculty, then using someone else’s images (including data, tables, photos, and figures) in the presentation would not fall within MRU’s Fair Dealing Requirements, and would also generally not be permitted under the educational exceptions in the Copyright Act.

It should be noted that the fair dealing exception may apply to these instances of copying, but a separate fair dealing analysis must be undertaken to ensure compliance with the Copyright Act. For assistance with this analysis, please contact the MRU Copyright Advisor at If fair dealing is not available, then you can always seek permission from the copyright owner (the MRU Copyright Advisor can assist with permissions, too, or can click here for more information).
