Maker Studio

The MRU Maker Studio is a creative space for students, faculty, staff and community users to explore ideas and concepts. Come in and experiment with new equipment, tools, and software to approach projects in a hands-on way. The Maker Studio facilitates academic research and interdisciplinary collaborations as part of course curriculum. Users can design and produce  creations for research, class assignments, teaching, or personal projects.

Drop in hours for the Maker Studio are Monday to Friday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Print submissions

3D prints, laser cutter files and printer / cutter files can be submitted at the links below. Read and complete the forms with all required information. Please adhere to the size and quantity limitations outlined on the forms. Special projects require consultation with Maker Studio Staff. Once your requests have been completed and are ready for pickup, you will receive email notification. Items can only be picked up from the Maker Studio during open hours.

Prints that are not picked up 30 days after email notification is sent become the property of Mount Royal University Library.


Persons submitting requests must abide by all applicable Mount Royal University Policies and Federal, Provincial, and Municipal laws. This includes compliance with intellectual property laws, including those set out under the Canadian Copyright Act. By completing a submission form, you are confirming that you have obtained all necessary legal rights and permissions regarding the objects you are printing. The Mount Royal University Library reserves the right to refuse any print request for any reason.


The Maker Studio is open for drop-in from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday and from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sundays.

The Maker Studio also holds orientations to the space on Monday to Thursday and workshops and special events are hosted throughout the year.

Maker Mondays

Maker Mondays are a series of events where local makers from within and outside of the MRU community come and share what they are working on with a view to showing us the possibilities with the tools and technologies in the Maker Studio. Meet the Maker and ask all the questions you have about their project.

Wellness Wednesdays

Wellness Wednesdays are a series of workshops all about living your best life through creativity and making. Hands on activities will show us how impactful making can be on psycho, social and physical wellbeing.

Finishing School with Edith Koprek

Thursdays 12.30-1.30pm

Join our Master in all things fibre related, to finish your project, work on part of your project, or just get started. This event is weekly on Thursdays between 12.30-1.30 just outside of the Maker Studio, no registration required.

Patrons are asked to attend an orientation and are required to read and sign the Waiver of Liability. No food or open drinks are allowed in the Maker Studio or the Laser Cutter Room.

Yes, the Maker Studio can accommodate classes. Contact Maker Studio Specialist, Kerry Harmer for a consultation on how Maker Studio staff can be of assistance to your curriculum.
We provide all of the materials for 3D printing.You will need to provide all materials and supplies for all other projects and they must be accompanied by a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). If you can’t find this, we can help you to source it. Ensure you are familiar with the limits as posted on the 3D Print Submission Form.
For the Fall 2018 semester there are no costs associated with the Maker Studio, with the exception of purchasing your own materials and supplies.
The Maker Studio is available for all students, faculty and staff to use.
You can attend an orientation or workshop that are scheduled and can be viewed on the Library Calendar. Or you can drop in between 10am - 2pm.
When you have received an email notifying you that your print is ready, you can collect your 3D prints from the Maker Studio during drop in hours 10am-2pm. Outside of these hours, the Service Desk can assist you in getting your print from the Maker Studio.
