The Library's new Reading List Tool (Leganto) is launching in conjunction with the Fall 2024 semester. Instructors can now easily link their Reading Lists to D2L to provide students with central, streamlined access to key course materials. The Reading List Tool is easy to customize, modify, and duplicate and simplifies library communication and digitization requests.

Add a variety of content, including physical books on Reserve, eBooks, book chapters, articles, videos, news articles, OER, podcasts or media held by MRU Library or freely available online
Submit digitization and syllabus review requests via the Reading List Tool with faster turnaround to the items appearing in your D2L

Step-by-Step Instructions
Create and/or Activate a Reading List
-
From your D2L Course Page, click “Course Tools” in the top menu bar and select “Reading List”
-
If you’ve used the tool before, you’ll arrive at your RL tool landing page. If not before, you will need to log in using your MyMRU account (this will connect your Reading List Tool profile to D2L).
-
If the Library has started a Reading List for your course, you will see it listed on the initial landing page. If you need to start a new one, click the “Create List button”
If creating a new list:
-
Create a title for your new course and enter a description if you like (you can edit later if you choose)
-
In the “Link to Course” search box, type your course code, prefix, or title and select your course, then hit next.
-
Push “Create List” Button - top right of screen.
-
Now you can click on and view your reading list. This is what students will see when they view your course reading list. You can click there to view the specific resources added/assigned here.
-
Continue to the “Add and Organize Items in your Reading List” section if needed, or if your list is ready, continue to the “Publish your list in D2L” section to ensure your list is viewable by your students.
Add and Organize Items in your Reading List
-
From your D2L course, in the top menu under “Course Tools” click “Reading List.” You will be directed to log in or redirected to your Reading List Dashboard.
-
Select the Reading List for the course you would like to edit.
-
The Library may have already added resources to your lists, but you can add, organize, or customize as preferred.
-
To add sections, click “Add” blue button at the top left of screen > Add Section
- You can organize your sections by week, modules, themes, etc.
- To organize by date, select dates from the menu that appears when you “Add Section.” You can check the box to display only for this time period, or keep it available through the semester.
- Once you have added multiple sections, you can drag and drop them to appear in your preferred order.
-
Drag resources from your reading list directly to the section(s) you want them to appear.
- Clicking on the resource will also show how the item is available from the library. You can add due dates for readings and add notes for your students here as well.
-
To add new items, click the blue “Add” button again. You can opt to search directly through the library, use a DOI or ISBN, or manually enter.
- Adding from Library: Click “Add” > “Search the Library” and enter your terms (ie, article title, author name, etc). When you find the appropriate resource, click “Add.”
- Adding Manually: Click “Add” > Manual Entry > Select the resource type, add a title. Upload the file if you have it, or click “Item details” and input the link / information your students may need to access it. You can add instructions for your students directly in each resource.
-
Ensure your list is active and published to D2L (see “Publish Reading List” section).
Once your list is complete, you can copy a shareable link from any individual item in your list and paste it in any other part of your D2L page as you prefer (including in assessments).
Publish your Reading List in D2L
-
From the Reading List you are working on, click “My List is Ready” in the top right corner to publish your list.
Please note: The list is not visible to students yet; you will need to go back to D2L to complete this process. If there are item on your list that have not been processed by the library (ex, adding a physical book to Course Reserves) your citations may not be immediately viewable for students.
-
Go back into your D2L course, select “Content” in top menu bar.
-
Click “Add a Module” on left sidebar and title it “Reading List.”

-
