A general introduction to archival records and how to search for/access them.
Handling archival records
Make sure that your hands are clean and dry.
Handle records carefully, assuming that they could be fragile.
Place records flat on the table when viewing them.
Do not write on or mark records.
Always keep file contents in their original order, and do not remove items from files.
When handling books and bound items, don't force them open or put pressure on the binding. Ask archives staff for a book stand to support fragile bindings.
Photography of records without flash is permitted for research purposes, except in some cases were there are restrictions noted in the finding aid.
