Searching using LibrarySearch

The search box on the MRU Library homepage lets you search all of the library's collections at once. Here, you can find books, book chapters, journal articles, videos, popular media, and more.

You can use the filters on the right hand side of the page to help limit your results. For example, you can use the "Peer Reviewed" limiter to see only peer reviewed articles, or you can specify a date or date range to get articles published in a specific year or span of years.

Searching in PubMed

You can refine your searches in PubMed using the advanced search feature to combine terms, and by using the limiters on the left hand side of the page. (You will have to do a search first in order to get these to appear.)

You can also find clinical trials in PubMed.

Using the Advanced Search feature, select "Publication Type" from the dropdown menu. Then, on the right hand side of the search box, click on "Show Index List." This will allow you to select from many different publication types, including clinical trials.

Tips for Effective Searches

  • Use quotation marks to keep multi-word phrases together (i.e., "antidepressant discontinuation syndrome")
  • Use AND between two search terms to get results that contain both terms (i.e., "gateway theory" AND "drug abuse")
  • Use OR between two search terms to search for either term (i.e., "drug addiction" OR "drug abuse")
