MRU Student Research Funding Sources and Awards

Please note: The following is not an exhaustive list of all funding and award opportunities relating to research on campus.

Please ensure that you consult the Office of Research, Scholarship, and Community Engagement and Student Awards websites as additional opportunities may be listed there.

  • Library Awards for Research Excellence

    • Student research projects completed as part of their credit coursework or as part of a MRU sponsored fellowship program (Catamount Fellowship) can be submitted for consideration for the individual or group awards and associated cash prizes.

  • Undergraduate Research Dissemination Fund 

    • Fund administered by ORSCE to support student participation in dissemination activities like conferences. Individuals can apply for up to $1500 in funding and groups of students (3 or more) working on the same project up to $3000.

  • SAMRU Experiential Learning Fund

    • Students are eligible for up to $1000 in funding per academic year. Conferences are among the eligible activities listed. Funding is available on a first come first served basis.

  • Holocaust Education Award

    • (All 2nd/3rd/4th year MRU students) - $1000 for best essay on the Holocaust and/or anti-Semitism.

  • Mokakiiks Undergraduate Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Dissemination Grant

    • Limited number of $1500 grants for student researchers to accompany their supervisor to a conference to present SOTL research.

  • Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) programs

    • MRU students are eligible to apply for the Trimmer Travel Award for arts and humanities student scholars

NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Awards

Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) offers Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRAs) funding for 14 to 16 weeks of full-time work.
